Did anyone grasp the Giver by lois lowry?

its a little confusing, but thats why its called a cliffhanger. they dont really narrate you what happens.
but you can read the second one, heard it was suitable!
they're not exactly sequels... not so much as in the exact same characters,
but files are gathering blue by lois lowry
and messenger by lois lowry.
I loved it, the ending is plain ended. If you're an optimist you think that Jonas made it to the town with the music, if you're a pessimist you regard that they've died at the end.
Though in The Gathering Blue and The Messenger she hints that Jonas is alive.
There's gathering blue then the messenger. all of them obedient.
