This isn't exactly what you asked for but I've been completly immersed in "The Genisis Enigma" by Andrew Parker. Its more of a textbook then anything, but it have a completly unbiased explanation of Genesis in the bible, and then an explanation of the Big Bang Theory, and it parallel the two, and suggest that creationists can also believe in the big bang theory.
I lately love it because its not suggesting anything, or opinionated in any way, its all completly object.
I'm not sure if you are interested in military/war books, but if you want a dramatic, sad story, try "Shadow Of The Sword" by Jeremiah Workman. It is an awesome book about a soldier's attempting to cope next to PTSD and losing his buddies after a viscious battle in Iraq. I found the story to be a bit of a tear jerker to see the existence of an outstanding young man ruined by the horrors of war.
"Under And Alone" is a great book by William Queen. While not really sad, it is a great story of an undercover ATF agent who infiltrated the Mongols motorcycle gang. Riveting story, I loved it.
The Bible
One of the best, IMO: The Great War for Civilisation by Robert Fisk. About the clashes in the Middle East, by a British foreign correspondent who has lived in Lebanon for thirty years and see much of it for himself. He isn't afraid to tell it like it is, and he is passionate in the region of his subject.
Malcom X's auto bio is top of my detail. Full of history and captures the atmosphere of the dramatic times.
Papillon by Henri Charrière is quite a thick book but you'll see through it. If it's for an english lit. course you need to get your teacher to say-so yes or no coz it's strictly speaking french lit.
Imperial Life in the Emerald City by Rajiv Chandrasekaran will be release as a film in spring 2010 (staring Matt Damon). So you could read it ahead of the crowd. It's not really a story though because it's journalistic within style.
Anyway... Go for Malcolm X. Source(s): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Autobio…
