Why is "Mein Kampf" by Adolf Hitler so expensive?
I was going to buy a copy at Barnes and Noble, but it cost $40!
WTF!?
Answers:
because nobody buys it, perhaps. If people bought it vanished and right it might not be so expensive.
Most likely because it also contains a fair amount of commentary and is sold as a scholarly file. Is it on a University press? Most such work with small enough runs, that the prices are always a bit more. It isn't as if closely of people walk into book stores to buy it, most people reading it for a course could go and get what they need out of it at a library.
If you are looking to save money, try shopping the fringe publishing web sites. You'll know how to pick up a cheap, poorly made, poorly edited copy there for only a little money, but you'll be on some nut's mail list forever.
it probably costs alot of money just to make the book.
get "My servant Hitler" instead
Is it really that much? Wow...Hitler would be so happy that he's worth that much.
(I was born contained by Poland (after WWII) and visited Krakow the summer of 2007. While there I would read a Krakow English weekly and recall reading a story more or less a bookseller who received a 6 month prison sentence and monetary fine for selling Mein Kampf. I was a bit surprised, but then again, all these years following, 70 yrs., Hitler memories can still be very raw and vivid of the Nazi rampage and devastation in Poland)
P.S. I know within the USA it is not a crime to sell Mein Kampf, so in addition to it person sold at bookstores, libraries would have a copy...so check your local public library. For myself, libraries are usually my source for book reading.
