What do you infer is the message contained by King Arthur's story?

Arthur, we know, is a great and popular example of a Romantic Literature hero. The story begins with Arthur ignorant of his birth or of any great adjectives. He gets the sword because he doesn't want to let his brother down, and he is generous throughout. What description or interpretation do you make of the story, and does that inspire you in any way?
Answers:
You left out that he got burned by his best friend, cheated on by his wife and became utterly consumed beside an obsession which he pursued at the expense of everything around him.

Inspiring? Not really. Life lessons for the real world? Well... I suppose it's full of things NOT to do.
It really depends on which changeability of the legend, in some Arthur seem pretty arrogant after he's given Excalibur by the Lady of the Lake/Nimueh.

And, The Fixer, is right-ish, but I wouldn't totally agree near him. True, his wife cheated on him, but she was atleast 10-20 years younger than him, and in some legends he cheats on her to.

I don't think they ever really inspired me, but they be great stories to read.
The being above me is right in that there's a dark side to Arthurian legend. But I conjecture what we can take from it is that the best way to live is with civility. Might doesn't form right.

The recurring episodes in the Arthur legends are how he brought peace, rule of law, and stability to Britain, which at the time be not a unified country but a bunch of warring tribes. Arthur made rules and laws that applied to everyone and were meted out moderately - no more wars. He ushered in an era of Pax Brittania (peace in Britain) that be unprecedented.

I'm not talking about the historical Arthur here, strictly about the legends of Malory, White, etc.
