In Harry Potter, are animagi competent to transform still using polyjuice potion?
I was wandering why in the fifth book Sirius isn't able to make tracks Grimmauld Place under polyjuice potion as then he would be unrecognisable. Is it because they can't use polyjuice potion as he is an animagi? Or is it just a mistake by J.K Rowling?

I don't think it's a mistake - I think Sirius doesn't use polyjuice potion for the following reason.
1. It takes a month to make and
2 .It only last for one hour.
Also - maybe he isn't that good at potions. It doesn't seem to be that unproblematic to make, after all.
polyjuice potion takes a month to make, remember? they didn't hold any in the 5th book and obviously they couldnt wait a month to engineer it.. i'm sure they can still transform using that potion but it just wasn't available to them then.

An Animagus is a witch or wizard who can turn into a demanding animal or magical creature at will. This ability is not innate: it must be acquired by magical means....polyjuice or by other mechanism. Polyjuice is just way of changing but not necessarily the singular way.
Polyjuice potion takes a long time to brand name plus sirius black probably doesn't want to risk it and polyjuice potion only lasts for a short time, and the dementors can sense who it is even though they are lower than the polyjuice potion spell.

to be honest i think youve thought about this too much, but thinking give or take a few it now, the pollyjuice potion takes ages to make because some element of it has to be made under a full moon and didnt he have to give notice in a hurry?
