Y.A. book nearly utopian society.?
The girl in the story is shown the secret passage out by her mother. The girl believes that it is the 1800's but surrounded by reality it is the 1990's. The parents chose to take part within this experiment but the government released a disease into the society and refuses to give the antibiotic.
The girl escapes and discovers that the ethnic group in this society are really a museum. The mother had given the girl a phone number of someone to call. It's give or take a few the girl's journey is this world that she is just thrust into and knows zilch about.
I read it back in 2006 and can't remember the mark of the book or the author. I'm looking to add it to my collection and possibly use it in my classroom along with The Giver.
