"Proof Only" copy of a book?

Is this what it sounds like? A pre-editing version of the book for editing? Is it rare?

I enjoy a copy of The Piebald Standard by Edith Simon that says PROOF ONLY on the cover of it. It also has the title in big type face,
"Published: May 28, 1959" and "Price: --/30" on the cover.

Is it valuable?
Answers:
Yes, you are correct about the "Proof Only". The worth of any book is determined by the emergency of that book. I looked up your book on the Alibris and Abe Books sites and came up with prices for the regular editions contained by the teens up to a hundred plus amount. Nothing popped up for the "Proof Only". The proof or uncorrected proof publishing are usually worth a little more. Especially if a fan of that author comes across it. There are certain criteria that books must follow when person listed somewhere to be sold.
