[Novel] Why might characters who abhorrence respectively other squad up?

Hey guys, I'm still playing about with my storyline and I've decided to change and make my characters meet sooner.

Can you think of reason why characters might team up/help each other, even though they hate respectively other, and possibly give me a few examples (made up ones, or ones youve read in books?)

Thanks you in credit :)
Answers:
Because they're both stuck in the same situation and both inevitability help with getting out of it.
Well... it depends on the characters.
Typically if the characters are "bad" it would be because of greed or a wish for power (ex: if they team up they own a better chance of overthrowing the king and therefor become rulers)
If they are "good" characters it could be to help someone the both care going on for (ex: One guys sister is another's girlfriend. They hate each other but team up to rescue her from her kidnappers). Or it could be because a mutual friend mediate it. (Ex: using the example above, the sister, safe and well thank you, could try to make them draw from along)
The last example i can think of, like several have said before me which can work for either "good" or "bad" characters, is that they could be unite for a common goal they can't achieve on their own. Source(s): My imagination =]
The most common reason would be to unite against a adjectives enemy.
they could minister to each other out to get back at an opponent or someone that's done them both wrong.

Kanga and Diana both teamed up against Camilla the horse, even though Diana was the wife and Kanga was the other mistress, they both hated Camilla the horse. But at the extremity of the day Camilla won the prince.
Characters who dislike intensely each other and team up somehow would always HAVE to share a desire, or at least each benefit by teaming up. One one need what the other have and vise versa. Make sure it is good reason for their meeting; be believable in their reactions and don't be afraid to make the detest show up frequently in the books. For example:

Amelia: Hand me that bottle, would you?
Nina: Do it yourself. My nails are drying.

Don't be afraid to use your imagination. Let the character's voice guide you; you'll be fine.

Good luck on your writing endeavors!
