Answers:
Well, situational irony is when the outcome of the story is vastly different from what you had expected. At the beginning of the story most people are expecting to read almost a celebration based first on the name, and second on the general atmosphere at the genesis of the story. Kids are playing, people are hurrying to the town square- it sound almost like a medevial flea market day or like when the circus comes to town. Then, it gets to the actual lottery and still zilch to suggest what might transpire until people start getting relieved that they don't have the "ticket". The ending scene is pretty grisly, esp when the neighbor give Tessie's son the stones to throw.

That should give you enough to get started. It's a great story if you haven't read it. Source(s): English core in college
