"Smart" coming of age novel for teens?
don't give me chick books like twilight or gossip girl or anything
I'm looking for books like Catcher in the Rye, Perks of Being a Wallflower, CAUCASIA [love that book] etc. Or memoirs, approaching Running with Scissors.

If you liked The Perks of Being a Wallflower, you might also savour a novel called Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit by Jeanette Winterson. It's the story of a "bright and rebellious stray who is adopted into an evangelical household" who insists on "listening to the truths of her own heart and mind--and on reporting them with wit and fervour..."
A very smart book by a writer with a big heart.
