Did Chinua Achebe ever in truth telephone Joseph Conrad a "bloody racist"?
Does Chinua Achebe ever actually call Joseph Conrad, the author of "Heart of Darkness" a "bloody racist"? Several sites have quoted him wise saying so, but never actually given the source of the quote and it frustrates me.

It is very hard to track down such a quote. He specifically thinks him a racist - called him a "thoroughgoing racist", so in an unguarded moment he may hold used the adjective "bloody".
