A friend publishing her work (revised)?
Okay, I think I need to expand a bit on my recently posted give somebody the third degree. A friend of mine is trying to get her work published in a newspaper, magazine, or newsletter of some type. She isn't worried give or take a few getting paid, she just wants to save the rights to her work and doesn't want the publisher to change the work before printing. Does anybody have any suggestions?
Answers:
she shouldn't worry. If she targets a reputable daily or mag, they respect people's right to copyright and a wage.
Good luck to your friend. She and me are in the same boat! :)
I doubt if anyone will print her work as is, because at hand are very few people who's work is so good that it doesn't call for to be edited, and this includes professional writers. Unfortunately, I've seen many writers with big ego (I'm not saying this is your friend, just an example) who think their work is the best article since sliced bread and that it needs no revision, because they've edited it and they think they've done a great job at it. Well, these population end up crashing and burning and never getting their work published. You know why? Because their work needs editing from an independent source. If your friend wants to be published next I suggest she become agreeable to making suggested changes. Editors aren't trying to make her work worse, they're trying to help her kind it better, while keeping the essence of her story. It's the editors who knows what appeals to people, not your friend, so she'd be wise to be instigate to changes. She can't have it both ways, not unless she goes beside a disreputable company.
Just my advice.
Writers similar to her have every potential to get started on a publishing career. If she is looking for self-publishing companies to publish her book, I know of a few companies that practically holds court to everything a book requirements from getting you your copyright, size preferences, book cover design customization, layout consultation, copyediting and even marketing – at affordable costs.
It's fun that you get to see your book published with the same expertise and professionalism as the regular books that you see surrounded by bookstores.
I hope I've helped. :) I hope she'll turn her work into a book. Source(s): How to get started with publishing:

I honestly don't know. You can try by sending an e-mail to any of the us newspapers. That's a well brought-up first step. Good luck.
