How to describe someone playing guitar?

I'm writing a short story and I need to describe a young boy playing guitar.
I have used words close to "gently strumming" but what else can I use?
Well, close your eyes and imagine someone playing a guitar or look up videos on youtube of your favorite artists playing guitar. What does it look close to? Gently strumming is so boring and expected. What does gentle strumming look like? What does furious strumming look like? There's adjectives kinds of ways to play the guitar. Use similes or metaphors to evoke some sort of emotion out of the reader that you'd like kind strumming to evoke.
