I'm reading new moon and I don't really understand. When Bella finds Edward who are the people (Felix, Demetri and Jane I think) who head them away from the clock tower and why can't Bella and Edward just go back. Why are they following these culture to that hole they went through? :/ confused. ps: if it helps im on page 405. x

Felix, Demetri, and Jane are segment of a very powerful group called the Volturi. They are the ruling group of vampires and wanted to conscript Edward to their group because of his mind reading skills. They summoned Edward and so Edward and Bella couldn't leave without a fight, but when Edward refuse they let him go because Carlisle had be their friend and they didn't want to anger him. The Volturi have the greatest rank in the vampire world. They have a clan who are mostly endowed (those with powers, like for example, Edward's mind-reading power, or Alice's future-reading power). Jane is one of the gifted vampires. You'll see, as you read the story, who else own gifts.
Edward's scared for Bella's safety.
Both Alice & Edward are scared that the Volturi will force them to bond the evil Volturi clan, and use them both to do evil things.
Bella's scared that the Volturi might kill her. And she's scared too for the sanctuary of her human family & friends, as well as the Cullens.
Bella, Alice, & Edward needed to follow Felix, Demetri, & Jane to the hole because, as they said, the Volturi "like" to see them.
When you say "like", any other vampires can NOT cry off this. They have to follow the Volturi, or they might get killed.
because Edward, a vampire told a human something like their existance. on the plane Alice said they had one rule only, to keep it a clandestine.. so that's why they were considering killing all three of them contained by that lil room if your on that bit yet.

they're the Volturi, they're basically the vampire dicators and brand sure that vampires stay secret. they realize that bella (as a human) knows of the existance of vampires and are going to elimate that problem. if bella and edward tried to leavethey would immediatley be killed..
well they cant only just leave cuz they would be in greater trouble and the volturi would kill them instantly short any chance! they r like the government and so they newly cant run away!
