A short story title base on WW2?

English course work
A young man is in the Red army (soviet union) gets capture by the German army. He's tourtured for a day untill he decides to try and escape.

rescue missions weren't really in teh red army's playbook. If you were capture and escaped you wouldn't want to go back to your own lines or you would be shot for desertion.
I'll agree near Scotter on this one. the Red Army regularly executed people for being captured. How around a story about him attempting to escape before his Commissar will know that he was capture? That way he faces danger from both the Germans and the Soviets. I'd articulate skip the red references in favor of something like One Afternoon In Gdansk, Yuri's Day Off, The Frying Pan (as surrounded by out of the frying pan, into the fire.)
