The dark competence of his stories and poems
I've read a couple of his poems and short stories the way he brings thing to go and making object seem dark similar to in the fall of the house of usher.
While I was aware of and familiar with Poe's dimness works ("The Cask of Amontillado" is my favorite) I didn't learn until recently that he has several comic works as all right. "The Spectacles" [SPOILER ALERT] is an amusing farce about a man too proud to wear his glasses, and ends up "marrying" his Grandmother because he can't see her well satisfactory to realize that she is old. It ends happily with a physical (and age-appropriate) marriage in true comic fashion. I give attention to most people don't realize that he was a more balanced author than he is given credit for.
