Anyone on here an editor?

If so do you like it? Just curious.. I need to get a level in something, and I'm good at English, etc, and I like writing, as in good health as always finding mistakes people make.. not that it's FUN, necessarily, but it's something I can do!

I am a freelance editor contained by addition to my full time job, which involves some editing of marketing copy that I myself have written. I soak up editing very much because it is satisfying to be able to find areas where on earth a text can improve.

You need to enjoy excellent grammar, reading and analytical skills, be good at communicating and working within the circle and style of different clients. Publishing companies will often have their own style guide so you should look up some of the main ones on Wikipedia to carry a feel for some of the grey areas in editing. What is a correct way of writing or spelling for one company/country may not be correct for another. Get to know how to use tracked change in Microsoft Word, too. As an editing tool that anybody can use and understand, it has no rival that I own seen.

Many editors are also knowledgable in a particular grazing land. The editor of a health food magazine, for example, would do well to have a point or training in nutrition etc. Think about what career you want to cessation up with and tailor your degree to incorporate this if possible. For example, if you can study both editing and marketing, you will be very well equipped for hundreds of job options, including perhaps becoming the editor for a marketing publication or website.

There are lots kinds of editors and many different kinds of editing job you can become involved in. Depending on where you live, there will also be Editors Societies and Writing Organisations where on earth you can find others in this field to ask about their feelings of the profession. In some countries you have to become accredited so you may want to look into that as well.

Editors find employment contained by the following ways:

* As the chief editor for a magazine or newspaper
* As a sub-editor for a magzine or newspaper
* As a copy editor, technical editor or proofreader for publishing companies, websites, software developers, producers etc.
* Any number of corporate, administrative, nouns roles will involve editing/proof-reading as a small part of their duties
* Freelance/self-employed

Bear in mind that you will have to start at the bottom and work your style up in most of these, but the same goes for most trade paths.

Best of luck! Source(s): My knowledge and experience as a writer (http://www.AmandaGreenslade.com), freelance editor (http://www.GreensladeCreations.com) and webmaster/sub-editor for a speculative fiction webzine (http://www.specusphere.com).
If you just want to get hold of a degree in something, get a point in Business. You also can go for English, or even just Writing. Whatever it is, though, I recommend you find something that you savour. And you don't necessarily need a degree in English or writing to work for a publishing company.
