I only get to 15,000 words my first try (2006), and then won in 2007 and 2008. I'm just hoping that I can complete it again this year too.
It's a really obedient way to train yourself to be disciplined enough to sit down, which is really difficult. Saying to yourself you have to write 1,667 words that time is something to keep you focused. It's also good for silencing your inner critic - you learn to be more forgiving of your foibles when writing a first draft (it's never going to be impeccable first time around!).
Plus it's great for cranking out first drafts that you can fix up later.

Yay for NaNoWriMo! I'm so excited for this year. It's going to be my fourth time...so I've had a bit of practice in dealing near my severe procrastination problem. Hopefully I'll get done by the deadline this year (I didn't make it my first two years...hehee).
Already started thinking of what I'm going to write about...so we'll see how it works out.

I signed up for the young authors because I probably cannot write 50,000 words contained by a month. I think I changed my goal to like 30 or 35 thousand. But yes, hopefully I will be doing it!
I am! This year I'm thinking of going for 100k though instead of 50k because closing year I reached that in fifteen days.
Ugh, I planned to do it five months ago. But I can tell you, right now, that my agenda is way too full. There's no way I can, unfortunately :(
