Fictional books roughly slavery and freedom?
I have to write a 6000 word dissertation in Ethics about freedom and slavery contained by literature (among other things) - can anyone help?!
I need as many books as possible, but noticeably need:
- something quite recent,
- something from the 20th century and
- something earlier.
I already hold Dostoevsky's The Brother's Karamazov, and Orwell's 1984, so anything that could compare with them would be really useful!
Answers:
Beloved - Toni Morrison
Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier which is just about the American Civil war, he abadons the war to go pay for home and meets an array of characters. This has many motifs throughout relating to freedom.
Gone With the Wind fits your critiera. It was written surrounded by the 30's, is about the Civil War, talks about slavery and freedom.
Uncle Tom's Cabin will offer you a better idea on slavery. It was written in the 1850's by Harriet Beecher Stowe. It is a work of fiction.
