What are my option for an e-book reader?

I am thinking about purchasing an e-book reader. I would like to know:
a) What are the current models? (I know of the kindle and sony ebook reader)
b) Is now a polite time to buy? (Are there any upcoming releases of ebook readers, or new generation
c) Which ebook reader is the best and why? (price, batt life, features, etc.)
Answers:
Let me try to answer:

a) Yes, they are the most popular two. Others aren't comparable within terms of functions and price.

b) I think so. Models rumored to launch have adjectives come out. There aren't any newer model going to launch up to now. Actually both Amazon and Sony has released their new models already these few months.

c) I'll vote for the Kindle. Read this customer report to know why:

I agree that the Kindle is better than the Sonys' among adjectives the latest models of e-book readers. To decide between the Kindle 2 and the Kindle DX, I'll suggest to read the following comparisons:

In short, if you inevitability to read PDF files with complicated charts or tables then choose the Kindle DX. Otherwise, the Kindle 2 should be virtuous enough. If you have the budget, it may always be better to choose the one beside more functions tough, as you may want to use those functions later.

Hope this helps you making up the decision.
a) They are Kindle 2, Kindle DX, Sony PRS300, Sony PRS600. Others old models

The Amazon Kindle and Sony Reader are the most popular two, others are just not comparable contained by terms of price and functions.

b) I bought my Kindle 2 a few months ago. It has a price drop of $60 recently. For me, I still focus it is a good time for me to buy it at that time, because I've already enjoyed the convenience it brought me these few months. Just that now it is even a better time. Amazon announced Kindle DX two to three months ago, Sony Reader newly announced PRS300 and PRS600. Apparently there will not be any new model soon.

I don't suggest people to keep on for new generations... I suggest you to read this review (especially lower half of it):

c) For me, I'll choose any the Kindle 2 or the Kindle DX. First is there are much more books available for the Kindle. Second is Kindle books are much cheaper than books for Sony Reader. Third is the text-to-speech function available only on the Kindle. Fourth is the free unlimited wireless access of the Kindle, it is definitely a big plus. I don't feel touch screen of Sony PRS600 is a benefit because quite a lot of general public comment that it is glare compared to screen of the Kindle. Read here to see why a Sony Reader owner choose the Kindle:
