From a marketing perspective it is genius. The customer pays $400 so that they can spend another $10 per book. The customer will be paying in the thousands in to time.
You also own to consider that you can never lend out or resell the books either. Read the 1 star customer reviews on Amazon.com and you will be able to read roughly speaking the functionality issues people have been have with them. As with all electronic devices the first version's point does not match the price tag. IF you're planning on purchasing this product, which I consider to be much more beneficial to Amazon.com than the customer, I would wait until copy 2.0.
