Kindle and ebook files on laptop?
I have a lot of e-books on my laptop. Will it be possible to move these to a Kindle?
"> Yes, it's possible. How you do it depends on what format your ebooks are in.
Then Kindle automatically recognize .txt files (as well as .azw, .mobi and .prc though these aren't very common ebook formats, at least possible not ebooks you might have on your laptop). So if your ebook is any of those fomats, just connect the Kindle to your laptop with the supplied USB cable and copy them over.
If you ebook is a .doc, you can email it to your Kindle email address and Amazon does the conversion for you. You can email other formats as economically (.png, .bmp, .jpg, .gif, .htm) but once again I'm guessing your ebook isn't any of those. The first link below (in sources) provides more details on the email option.
If your ebook is a .pdf you can try the email option but Amazon doesn't label any promises about the conversion. The better bet is to use a file conversion utility that will convert the .pdf to something the Kindle reads and next just transfer w/the USB cable. MobiPocket Creator seems to be the converter of choice for PC. For Macs, there's Stanza which also converts pdfs to files the Kindle can read.
I've experimented beside transferring a few ebooks and had decent luck. The pdfs I converted had headers and footers which didn't correspond to page size on the Kindle so they simply get thrown in the mix and after a while can be kind of annoying but at lowest they are on my Kindle.
