The Kindle is sold out on Amazon, at least until the end of January. And Ebay is selling them for very soaring prices.
However, there is a third option - refurbished Kindles.
On the main kindle page, within is a box on the right that says "refurbished Kindles". They get refurbished Kindles in stock at irregular intervals. So hold an eye out during the next week and see if you can get one.
