Kindle 2.0 is a trick... right?
This is an early April Fool’s joke, right? It’s not a book, and never will be a book. Anyone who wants to read books on puny electronic devices, be my guest. The pretext these things haven’t been a hit as the iPod has is that it doesn’t change the paradigm surrounded by a positive way. Listening to music anywhere you want makes sense. Reading books on a tiny device because you CAN doesn’t mean you should. The kindle is an answer to a request for information that no one asked.
Answers:
The Kindle offers many things that books don't, and so may indeed find a market.
One is portability. While an individual book is portable, a Kindle can store masses books, and thus the reader is reliveed of having to lug a whole library around with them.
Another is the expertise to immediately download a new book, without have to wait for the mails or make a trip to the bookstore.
A third is the propensity to search texts.
And some people find them easier to read. The blind isn't tiny == the page size isn't much different than the page size of a printed book.
And I gather the Kindle 2 has the ability to read text aloud, so it becomes sort of a book on tape and printed book in one.
So -- those empire who like them, appreciate that you invite them to be your guest in doing so.
They can also hold up to 200 books. If you travel a lot and approaching to read, they're really great.
I don't know, I know a LOT of people who read books on video-iPods, and they are quite small, I don`t know 4"x5" at best. I don't get it myself, but to each their own. That said I think that reading books on iPod is more of a curiosity for family who already own one. I doubt very much that there is a significant portion of the market-base that says "yay for reading books on teeny-weeny eyestrainovision" and go out to buy a ViPod. If people buy the product for something else, then get files as a bonus, they might use it, but I'm predicting economic failure for something that does that solely.
