Facts on the kindle 2?

Okay, I get that you can buy the Kindle for 300 something and that there are over millions of books that you can download, but what about files that you already own. Can you just put it into the kindle or do you need to buy them again.

Is the Amazon website the only place where on earth you can buy this? And is there anything else that I need to know about it?
Answers:
Yes, Amazon is the only place you can order the Kindle 2. Right now they do not adopt order outside United States, so I know some people outside United States will get from their friends here.

If files you originally own is one of the supported formats like PDF or Word then you can convert them to Kindle format for free and copy to the Kindle. Here is an extract from the Kindle page on how this works. The sales page and actual customer review should afford every thing you need to know already.

Personal Documents

Kindle makes it comfortable to take your personal documents with you, eliminating the involve to print. Each Kindle has a unique and customizable e-mail address. You can set your unique email address on your Manage Your Kindle page. This allows you and your approved contacts to e-mail Word, PDF documents, and pictures wirelessly to your Kindle for a small per document fee--currently single 10c per document. Kindle supports wireless delivery of unprotected Microsoft Word, PDF, HTML, TXT, JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP, PRC and MOBI files.

You can email your PDFs wirelessly to your Kindle. Due to PDF's fixed layout format, some complex PDF files may not format correctly on your Kindle.

If you are not in a wireless area or would resembling to avoid the fee, you can send attachments to "name"(a)free.kindle.com to be converted and e-mailed to your computer at the e-mail address associated with your Amazon.com report login. You can then transfer the document to your Kindle using your USB connection. For example, if your Kindle email address is Jay(a)Kindle.com, dispatch your attachments to Jay(a)free.kindle.com.
Electronic books you can put on the Kindle unless it is not supported. Some you have to convert first, like PDFs. The manual explains more roughly speaking that.

That said, if you mean actual, physical, printed books, you will have to buy the electronic copy separately. Amazon is the main store and the single place I know of where you can get the Kindle, but there is other sites where on earth you can download books for free and in a format Amazon can recognize, like Project Gutenberg and ManyBooks.lattice.

If you want more general information and not a specific question about the Kindle (if so, contact me), purely check out the main page and reviews on Amazon.

By the way, if you get the unrestricted cover and 2 days shipping, it comes out to be 401 and some cents.
Yes, you can copy accounts to your Kindle if they are in electronic format.
