I'll say the feature of Kindle 2 that makes it stands out of other ebook reader is that it can access internet everywhere for free. However, this benefit vanishes if you are outside the U.S. I'll suggest to go for sony reader, quite profusely of people like it more than the Kindle 2 because it has better PDF support. The price is cheaper too. There is an actual customer review on Amazon below, it compares the Kindle 2 and the most modern versions of sony readers:
