Would I know how to buy an Amazon Kindle book and belief it on my computer?
If so, would it just be like a plain text record I'd be able to see or what? I want to buy e-books but I don't want no Kindle, sorry Amazon...

I never think I would ever get a Kindle too. However, after reading some reviews, I changed my mind and try it. Now I really love the device. So may be you can contribute yourself a chance to read one or two reviews. I've given my opinions for the Kindle here, in grip you're intereseted:

Amazon Kindle has cross platform support. You can get the PC, Mac, Kindle, iPhone, and more to read them. Other companies do e-books too but not a re-download I bet.
