How can I bring and use Amazon Kindle within Europe?
I live in Switzerland and I want a Kindle.
- When will it be available in Switzerland? In the UK?
- Can I use a Kindle purchased in the USA surrounded by Europe? I can live without the wireless access and only download through PC (I can get an US IP as proxy).
Thanks
Answers:
You can not get the Kindle in Switzerland for now, they merely work in the US. If you do not want the wireless connection anyway there are profoundly of cheaper alternatives available: http://www.tech-no-media.com/2009/05/ebook-readers-5-kindle-alternatives.html Source(s): http://www.tech-no-media.com/2009/05/ebook-readers-5-kindle-alternatives.html
YOU CAN'T
the Kindles will only be sold in the USA as it uses a mobile standard thats lone in the USA and so will not connect outside the USA. and it does NOT have a licence to be sold without the wireless access as thats used to update the device and control its content/usage. (if its not connected to the US networks for 28 days the device also shuts down to prevent further usage)
so for copyright licencing reason they cannot be sold or used outside of the USA
See the second third question from the Kindle 2 FAQ here, you cannot order the Kindle device nor the Kindle books on Amazon right now if you are outside the United States. So even you grasp the Kindle device it will be a headache to get the digital content inside, unless you find a U.S. credit card with U.S. delivery address... It is said that they may label it international available in the future, but this is mentioned since the Kindle 1 is launched and no other information so far...

I'll suggest you to go for sony reader PRS-505 instead, quite a lot of citizens like it more than the Kindle 2 because it has better PDF support. The price is cheaper too. See a review below from an actual customer who compares the latest version of sony readers and the Kindle:
