How does a Kindle work? too short...?
I've been looking at Kindles and they seem like a apt idea but dont know of anyone who has one. What I want too know is how many books can be stored on the tough drive. Is their a "rent" feature or are you only allowed to buy?
Answers:
The Kindle can hold thousands of books. You can't rent books, but there are some good websites close to this one which provides over 20,000 free books available in Kindle format:

There is a good simple article here talking going on for how does the Kindle work:

You cannot rent books, but since Amazon provide books for the Kindle cheaper than actual books, it has saved me quite deeply of money. Right now I've read over 10 books with the Kindle, and I really like the concept that I can bring and store all the books with the handy device. Besides, it uses the e-ink technology, so even I read beside the device for long hours, I don't feel tired. My only complaint is the white case, right very soon all the Kindles are in white color... I think it will be cool if I can own a black or deep blue color Kindle ;)
I'll suggest you to read this review too, it outlines quite a lot of benefits of the Kindle:

Don't use iPod Touch for reading if you plan to read normally. When using the iTouch to read books, there are quite a lot of inhabitants complaining about the small screen size, discomfort for long reading, no wireless access and no access of Kindle store for instant download of books and newspapers, etc., when compared to the Kindle. If you simply use the device for reading occasionally then it should be fine. But if you'll use it for reading often then it is the best bet to buy the Kindle.
Hope this help.
Instead of getting a Kindle contraption you should just get an iPod Touch, or an iPhone, they are compatable with ALL of the things that a Kindle tool is compatable with. I have an iPod Touch and I read the kindle books on there adjectives of the time. Most of the books and stuff only take up a few KBs of space, so if you get hold of an 8GB iPod then you'll have enough space for - I'm lately estimating - 100 books, most likely much more.
The good part is, the iPods cost just about half the price of a Kindle machine, and you can do more than just read books next to them. Plus, you can take off books any time you want to, and put them back on again latter, if you desire.
Hope I helped!

You can store 1500 books on the Kindle 2, and 3500 books on the Kindle DX. Either one has more than adequate space for books. You cannot rent books, and you can only buy books. The good thing is that Amazon provide comparatively a lot of books at a very cheap price. Let me exlaborate more below.
I own the Kindle 2, so let me afford you some of my opinions. I've to say I I love it! I think I've read over 20 books beside my Kindle, no glitches so far!
One of the reasons I love my Kindle is that it has helped me augment a lot on my efficiency and utilize my time. Before I have the Kindle, waiting time approaching when I'm waiting for friends or waiting for shuttle bus or some thing like that is simply thin. Now I just need to bring the Kindle 2 along with me, and adjectives my favorite books are inside it. Another thing I like the most is the text-to-speech function, which means I can "read" books in need even holding or looking at the Kindle. Now I like to use this function when I've myself busy on some boring things, say when I'm on the step machine or doing some housework...
I approaching reading and at the beginning I missed a bit on the feeling of reading books. But now I love to hold the Kindle, the e-ink seem to work very well, it is really like reading books... Now I normally read with the Kindle for several hours but I don't feel tired...
I don't prefer to use iPod Touch for books (it is good for music), because the eyeshade isn't designed for reading and it will not be good to your eyes if you read for long time.
And just in travel case you don't know, Kindle books, magazines and newspapers are cheaper than the actual paper book. Amazon also provides quite a lot free or very cheap books. I remember I read these reviews around the benefits of the Kindle when I decided to buy it:

Finally, you are lucky that Amazon recently announced a price slash on the Kindle 2. It is now selling $60 cheaper than the price I get my Kindle... So take the chance.
Hope it helps :) Source(s): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00154J… (Kindle 2 after price slash)
