Non-Amazon things on Kindle?
I'm thinking of getting a Kindle. I know how I can get Amazon books on it plus books from a few other sources. But can I easily load private documents onto it? For example, if my boss emails me a report surrounded by PDF format, can I transfer it to my Kindle for easy reading? How about if my friend emails me a Word folder of his novel--can I load that onto my Kindle too? (Through USB, for example?)
I'd welcome comments from anyone who has experience surrounded by this.

Yes, you can do what you said near the Kindle.
There are the Kindle 2 and Kindle DX, and among them the Kindle DX will even be better because you can just copy PDF files directly to it for reading. For the Kindle 2, you need to send PDF and DOC profile to an email address (given to you by Amazon), and they will be converted to Kindle format. You can then get it back through the free internet access on the Kindle device.
Read this review and you should be capable of decide whether to get the Kindle 2 or Kindle DX:

Yes, you can have PDF and DOC files to the Kindle. Here is the official page with steps to do this:

I own the Kindle 2 and I love it awfully much. I remember I read these reviews when I decided to buy it:

Finally, you are lucky that Amazon recently announced a price slash on the Kindle 2. It is now selling $60 cheaper than the price I get my Kindle... So take the chance.
Hope it helps :) Source(s): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00154J… (Kindle 2 after price slash)
Yes. Both PDF and DOC files (and also profile types like MOBI) can be read on the Kindle. Read the third paragraph in this review:

The review says it cannot connect to gmail or yahoo, but I can connect it. I in reality use gmail to send email from my Kindle without problem.
I love my Kindle 2 very much. If you are thinking of buying a Kindle, I'll say-so get it and you won't regret. Since Amazon provide books for the Kindle cheaper than actual books, it has saved me rather a lot of money. Right now I've read over 10 books with the Kindle, and I really similar to the idea that I can bring and store all the books near the handy device. Besides, it uses the e-ink technology, so even I read with the device for long hours, I don't feel tired. My only complaint is the white satchel, right now all the Kindles are in white color... I expect it will be cool if I can have a black or deep blue color Kindle ;)
I'll suggest you to read this review from a top reviewer, it outlines quite profusely of benefits of the Kindle and also why it is worth especially at the end of the review:

Hope this helps.
