Besides the Kindle, what other open-handed of portable ebook reader are within?

Also, how do they compare to the Kindle?
Answers:
Hi, besides Kindle there is one very popular ereader from Sony. If you would like to see the differences, near is a comparison chart of Sony eReader and Kindle here: http://www.mobileereaders.com/Amazon_Kin…

Hope it helps!
Type "portable e-book readers" into your search bar (as I did), and you will be taken to a page where here are a number of ads from different companies for their readers. I've have no experience with electronic readers; I doubt that I'd prefer them to reading actual books. I do know that the Kindle device is very expensive initially, but, if its rentals are acceptable, it may pay for itself eventually in comparison with buying books. Of course, the library is free! Still, you must read library books contained by specified time spans.
Sony Reader and the Kindle are the two most popular e-readers. But I'll suggest the Kindle 2, unless you are outside the United States (because Amazon doesn't allow order of the Kindle outside the U.S.). The biggest issue is the content availability. The Kindle is supported by Amazon with much more book selections. Kindle books are also cheaper than the actual books, so it will set free you money in long term. Amazon also provide thousands of Kindle books for free or at a low price. Sony reader is much weaker in this nouns.

There is a good comparison here about the latest version of the two digital book readers:

And here is a review on the Kindle 2 from a owner of many ebook readers, see if it help:

I'm a Kindle 2 owner and I love my Kindle 2 very much. I think the text-to-speech function is very compassionate, and right now this function is only provided by the Kindle 2. It means I can use it to "read" books a short time ago like listening to music with the ipod.

The free internet access of the Kindle is also completely useful. Not only that I can buy and download the ebooks everywhere with wireless access, but also I can access websites resembling wikipedia or google any time when I'm on the road.

Another major advantage of the Kindle is that it is more effortless to find books in Kindle format. Read the following review and you'll know. It is a review from an actual customer called N. Jenkins, who is a fan of sony reader, but also favor the Kindle for more available titles:
