When you refer to e-book, you may mean the "electronic book", in truth, you are comparing between a file and a software. The e-book is the file that contains the actual book while the software (in this case kindle) is simply a reader. Can you please clarify the question more clearly whether this e-book is supposed to be the file or your interpretation of a software. In this case, which software is supposed to read your "e-book"?
You mean which ebook reader is the best? Right now there are two most popular ones, the Kindle and the Sony Reader. Sony Reader is a bit cheaper, but I'll read aloud the Kindle 2 is the best. There are some good reviews here:

The two big players within the market right now are the Amazon Kindle and the Sony e-reader. There are definitely other devices available and they hold great features, but those are the big two.

Personally, I'm with Laheira on the Kindle. That thing could breathe rainbows as far as I'm concerned and I still wouldn't be rushing to line Jeff Bezos' pockets.
If you are trying to compare between types of ebook reader v. the Kindle (which is also an ebook reader) you should clarify. Your question as currently stated, is not clear enough. I use Sony's e-book reader and Dell's Axxim Pocket PC for ebook reading. I don't like Amazon's business practices (reeks of borderline attempts at monopoly) so I don't intend to buy a Kindle any time soon.
