Answers:
It is $359 for the Kindle 2 and $489 for the Kindle DX. Normally you'll get the leather cover and together near the shipping cost it will be around $400 and $550 respectively. You should get both the Kindle device and the Kindle books from Amazon.

I'll also suggest you to read a review here. It is the best one I've ever read:

Hope this helps you making the decision.
Check it in the official page of Kindle, you should win it there:

Just buy books through your Kindle. It is really convenient. I love my Kindle 2 very much. If you are thinking of buying one, I'll say take it and you won't regret. Since Amazon provide books for the Kindle cheaper than actual books, it has saved me quite profoundly of money. Right now I've read over 10 books with the Kindle, and I really like the perception that I can bring and store all the books with the handy device. Besides, it uses the e-ink technology, so even I read next to the device for long hours, I don't feel tired. My only complaint is the white case, right immediately all the Kindles are in white color... I think it will be cool if I can own a black or deep blue color Kindle ;)

I'll suggest you to read this review too, it outlines quite a lot of benefits of the Kindle:

BTW, near is the Kindle DX newly launched. It is now out of stock but if you proclaim it now it should be delivered to you in one month. There is a virtuous review here for you to decide whether to choose the Kindle 2 or the Kindle DX:

To answer your questions, it is around $360. Since it is a product from Amazon, so you must capture it online from Amazon. When you get your Kindle, you can buy books directly through the device (it provides free 3G internet access) and the books will then download to your Kindle and you'll know how to read them. Below is my bookmark for homepage of the Kindle:

I own the Kindle 2, so let me give you more of my opinions on how I resembling it.

I think I've read even more than I've in the past since I owned the Kindle. I've read over 20 books beside my Kindle, no glitches so far!

I love my Kindle because it has helped me improve a great deal on my efficiency and utilize my time. Before I owned the Kindle, waiting time like when I'm waiting for friends or waiting for shuttle bus or some thing close to that is simply wasted. Now I just entail to bring the Kindle 2 along with me. Another thing I like the most is the text-to-speech function, which mechanism I can "read" books without even holding or looking at the Kindle. Now I like to use this function when I've myself busy on some boring things...

For books, Kindle books are cheaper than that of actual books, many clean books are sold at $9.99 or below. Amazon also provides quite a lot of free or very cheap books.

And I remember I read these reviews when I opt to buy the Kindle 2:
