ONLY Kindle DX allows you to fetch and read all of your personal and professional documents on the go. You can find more information here:

In Kindle 2 this feature is experimental and for complex documents might not format correctly, but allows to convert PDF documents to another format. Read more here:

Sony Reader PRS700BC also allows you to read PDF docs. Read more:

And the cheapest Sony PRS-505, too:

To read your personal documents on Kindle requires conversion of the files into a Kindle-compatible format. Amazon provides a service for file conversion. The converted files can be sent wirelessly to a Kindle device for a small excise or to an e-mail address associated with the Amazon account for free. For the free service, converted files need to be manually copied unto the Kindle via a USB hook-up beside a PC.

The supported file formats for conversion are listed below:
o Microsoft Word (.DOC)
o RTF
o PDF
o Structured HTML (.HTML, .HTM)
o JPEG (.JPEG, .JPG)
o GIF (.GIF)
o PNG (.PNG)
o BMP (.BMP)
o Compressed ZIP (.ZIP) Source(s): Kindle user
Yes, I own the Kindle and I can put some PDF and DOC files to my Kindle. It is quite convenient.

Another good thing for the Kindle is that within are some websites providing free books for the Kindle. The following is the biggest, it provides over 20,000 free books available in Kindle format:

I love my Kindle 2 very much. If you are thinking of getting a Kindle, I'll say carry it and you won't regret. Since Amazon provide books for the Kindle cheaper than actual books, it has saved me quite a great deal of money. Right now I've read over 10 books with the Kindle, and I really like the opinion that I can bring and store all the books with the handy device. Besides, it uses the e-ink technology, so even I read next to the device for long hours, I don't feel tired. My only complaint is the white case, right immediately all the Kindles are in white color... I think it will be cool if I can enjoy a black or deep blue color Kindle ;)

I'll also suggest you to read this review from a top reviewer, it outlines quite a lot of benefits of the Kindle and also why it is worth especially at the winding up of the review:

Yes, both the Kindle and the Sony Reader supports imported PDFs. Among adjectives the models, I'll suggest Kindle DX. Read a thorough review here from an original Sony Reader lover:

I don't recommend Sony Reader because I've friends complaining that it is difficult for them to find some books for the Sony Reader, and books are quite expensive. The Amazon Kindle does much better in this nouns; the Kindle store can really provide fruitful and affordable content.
