Probably, because the Kindle 2 price go down after the launch of the Kindle DX. There is a discussion about the price drop here:

From my observation, it is not a new one coming out, but it happen after a model is out after a few months. The Kindle 1 has dropped price from $399.9 to $359.9 after it is released for about 5-6 months. The Kindle 2 has dropped price just now, after 5 months of its release. So the latest Kindle DX may follow the pattern.
If you are considering to get the Kindle, it is the right time to obtain the Kindle 2. I think it will no longer has price drop any more, so it is now the best price:

I think it should be one of the reason. Though from scrutiny on what occurred they just cut the price after a product launched for a few months, later kept stay with that price.
