Kindle? Worth the money or not?
I'm an avid reader, I go through books in several hours, even quite tacky ones. My roommate said something about looking into getting a Kindle and said it might be a good idea for me to check out.
My cross-question is, are they worth the money? What do I need to have in establish to use one? I have an Amazon.com account already...

SO worth it. The books are cheeper on the Kindle, and far more portable. It's much more environmentally friendly, and unless you enjoy filling up bookshelves (which I sort of do), you can't go wrong near the Kindle. You can even get some of your textbooks on it!

My wife wishes one. She reads 2 or 3 novels a week and would get greatly of use out of it. But, the Kindle and Kindle2 only have a 6-inch (diagonal) screen and that's pretty small (smaller than a standard paperback). The Kindle DX have a 9.7 inch screen (a little bigger than a standard paperback). But, I don't think that justifies the $490 price (current price through Amazon). However, e-books are solitary a couple bucks. So, it would probably pay for itself after a couple hundred books.
Still, I can't see spending that much for it. Maybe if it comes down to about $300.

I love my Kindle 2 very much. If you are thinking of buying one, I'll voice get it and you won't regret. Since Amazon provide books for the Kindle cheaper than actual books (even for new books), it has save me quite a lot of money. Right now I've read over 10 books beside the Kindle, and I really like the idea that I can bring and store all files with the handy device. Besides, it uses the e-ink technology, so even I read with the device for long hours, I don't feel tired. My solely complaint is the white case, right now all the Kindles are surrounded by white color... I think it will be cool if I can have a black or deep blue color Kindle ;)

Yes, it worths the money, especially after a price cut for the Kindle 2. I've many friends owned the Kindle 2, and reading on the screen is really like reading on actual books. It is so handy to look up for dictionary, dropping notes, and keeping all books all contained by one device.

Good for you that Amazon just announced a price slash on the Kindle 2. It is now under $300! If your tale is associated with a correct shipping address and credit card in U.S., then you can jump ahead to get the Kindle without problem.

One of the reasons I love my Kindle is that it has helped me revolutionize a lot on my efficiency and utilize my time. Before I owned the Kindle, waiting time like when I'm waiting for friends or waiting for shuttle bus or some item like that is simply wasted. Now I only just need to bring the Kindle 2 along with me, and all my favorite books are inside it. Another entity I like the most is the text-to-speech function, which means I can "read" books without even holding or looking at the Kindle. Now I resembling to use this function when I've myself busy on some boring things, say when I'm on the step machine or doing some housework...
I like reading and at the initiation I missed a bit on the feeling of reading books. But now I love to hold the Kindle, the e-ink seems to work awfully well, it is really like reading books... Now I often read beside the Kindle for several hours but I don't feel tired...
Just in case you don't know, Kindle books are cheaper than that of actual books, frequent new books are sold at $9.99 or below. For books in the public domain, I can just get hold of it free from Amazon (or some sites like http://manybooks.net/) and store on my Kindle, so I no longer need to go to the library to borrow and it can be done beside a few clicks on the device. Amazon also provides quite a lot very cheap books. I've previously bookmarked a polite article talking about this:
