Can you download eBook to the Amazon Kindle from other places than the Kindle website?
I want to buy a Kindle but if for some reason Kindle stops making books I want to be able to download books from other places.

As you can see in the product sale page, the Kindle can actually read the following format of ebooks after conversion: unprotected MOBI, PRC, PDF, HTML, DOC
On other websites, there are actually tons books sold in MOBI or PDF format, and they can be read on the Kindle.
And I don't think Amazon will stop making books... The number of books available for the Kindle is actually increasing speedily. There are only 270,000 Kindle books available when I get the device a few months ago, but now it is over 350,000 Kindle books, as you can see from the relationship here:

And just in case you don't know, Kindle books, magazine and newspapers are cheaper than the actual paper version. Amazon also provides reasonably a lot free or very cheap books. I remember I read these reviews about the benefits of the Kindle when I established to buy it:

Finally, you are lucky that Amazon recently announced a price slash on the Kindle 2. It is now selling $60 cheaper than the price I got my Kindle... So filch the chance.

I love my Kindle 2 very much. If you are thinking of getting a Kindle, I'll say capture it and you won't regret. Since Amazon provide books for the Kindle cheaper than actual books, it has saved me quite plentifully of money. Right now I've read over 10 books with the Kindle, and I really like the perception that I can bring and store all the books with the handy device. Besides, it uses the e-ink technology, so even I read beside the device for long hours, I don't feel tired. My only complaint is the white case, right presently all the Kindles are in white color... I think it will be cool if I can hold a black or deep blue color Kindle ;)
