What is the database format for the Kindle and other e-readers?
I want to know if it uses HTML or .pdf. Or, alternatively, can it use multiple formats?
Answers:
The Kindle have its own AZW format. The Sony Reader, which is one of the two most popular e-readers together with the Kindle, also uses its own BBeB format. You can see on their product description page.
However, they can all handle PDF and HTML. Source(s): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00154J… (Kindle)

Yes, the Kindle 2 can read PDF or HTML. See the third paragraph here:

The Kindle 2 handle PDF files with conversion. If within are no complicated charts or tables it should be handled well contained by the Kindle 2. But if you need to read complicated PDF files, you better go with Kindle DX, which support PDF files natively. Here you can see the aboriginal PDF handling of Kindle DX:

Hope this helps. Source(s): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00154J… (Kindle 2 sales page)

If you buy books for the Kindle, it will be in Kindle format (AZW). On the other hand, buying books for the Sony Reader will be in BBeB format.
I'm a Kindle 2 owner. In satchel you're considering to buy the Kindle, I remember I read this review when I bought mine:
