I'm a Kindle 2 owner. I've to say that note taking is great with the Kindle, and I don't hold to worry about ruining my books... You can read the third paragraph in this review to know more:

I do recommend you to gain the Kindle. Reading on the device is really like reading books, and buying books on it is much cheaper than actual books. It have saved me rather a lot of money already :)
