Has anyone tried Amazon's spanking new wireless tech device, Kindle, for downloading and reading books?

I would love to try this, but the price of $399 scares me to death, especially if there is no course to examine one in person before order. Will wait until a later model comes out, hopefully with the prices down. But surrounded by the meantime, I would love to hear feedback from anyone who has had experience with this latest "toy." (Or who know of people that have tried it out.)
