Does the Amazon Kindle work outside the US? (I live surrounded by Colombia- South America)?

According to the Amazon website, it is currently not available to international customers, but I think it'll work outside the US because it's a battery powered thing. However, I don't know if you'll win access to the internet because of the cell-phone internet thing, so if it doesn't get internet, I don't think it'll be of much use to you since that's how you buy files. I'm not sure about this but it's the was I figure it'd work... I'm sure they'll own an international version out soon.
