Stupid interrogate, but are ebooks (purchased) downloadable ONLY on Kindles/ereaders OR can they be downloaded?
onto a desktop or laptop? Thanks.
Answers:
Yes, they can be downloaded on a computer. Usually you can find the most on a p2p network such as Limewire. However, if you do use a program such as Limewire you own to watch out for viruses. Most ebooks that you download on a computer will be in .pdf format which can be open with Adobe Reader. Hope this helps!
Depending on where you buy the ebook and for what device, you should be able to read the book on your desktop/laptop through the program it uses. For example, if you buy an audiobook on iTunes for your iPod, you can still listen to the audiobook on your computer, but it must be through iTunes. I know this is a bad example because it's not an ebook, but it's indistinguishable deal with Kindles and eReaders.
For ebooks purchased from Amazon, you can only read them with the Amazon Kindle.

If you mean Kindle books, they are contained by AZW format (with file extension .azw) and cannot be read on a computer, as you can see here:

If you mean ebooks in standard format approaching PDF format, then you can read on computer using software like adobe reader.
