Answers:
The screen is very clear and looks just approaching paper. The battery does last a long time, I get hold of around 3 days with wireless on and around 1.5 weeks with wireless off. You hold access online anywhere you get a sprint signal.
I own the Kindle 2, so let me give you some of my opinion. I've to say I love it! I think I've read over 30 books with my Kindle, no glitches so far!

One of the reason I love my Kindle is that it has helped me improve greatly on my efficiency and utilize my time. Before I have the Kindle, waiting time like when I'm waiting for friends or waiting for shuttle bus or some piece like that is simply wasted. Now I freshly need to bring the Kindle 2 along with me, and all my favorite books are inside it. Another entry I like the most is the text-to-speech function, which means I can "read" books without even holding or looking at the Kindle. Now I resembling to use this function when I've myself busy on some boring things, say when I'm on the step machine or doing some housework...

I like reading and at the naissance I missed a bit on the feeling of reading books. But now I love to hold the Kindle, the e-ink seems to work terribly well, it is really like reading books... Now I often read beside the Kindle for several hours but I don't feel tired...

Yes, the screen is clear to read; and once you've got your books on the Kindle it can be read everywhere (even if you stir to other countries, just that there will not be 3G network). For the battery vivacity, I've tried. If I turned off wireless it can work for around one week without charging; if I leave the wireless on, it can work for one and a partly day.

And just in travel case you don't know, Kindle books, magazines and newspapers are cheaper than the actual paper magazine. Amazon also provides quite a lot free or very cheap books. I remember I read these reviews something like the benefits of the Kindle when I decided to buy it:

Finally, Amazon has recently put a price slash on the Kindle 2, and it is in a minute selling $60 cheaper than the price I got my Kindle... So take the chance if you want it.

Hope it help :) Source(s): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00154J… (Kindle 2 after price slash)
Yes, it works every where. And below link is the coverage network of free Whispernet which comes next to the Kindle. It will still work without problem if you're not in network coverage, lately get books with your PC and copy to the Kindle through USB cable.

I love my Kindle 2 very much. If you are thinking of getting a Kindle, I'll say-so get it and you won't regret. Since Amazon provide books for the Kindle cheaper than actual books, it has saved me fairly a lot of money. Right now I've read over 10 books with the Kindle, and I really approaching the idea that I can bring and store all the books next to the handy device. Besides, it uses the e-ink technology, it is really clear like reading books; and even I read with the device for long hours, I don't feel tired. Battery isn't a problem, I habitually charge my Kindle every one or two days, and it never runs out of battery if I've charged it the day before. My just complaint is the white case, right now all the Kindles are surrounded by white color... I think it will be cool if I can have a black or deep blue color Kindle ;)

I'll suggest you to read this review from a top reviewer, it outlines comparatively a lot of benefits of the Kindle and also why it is worth especially at the end of the review:
