Question for Amazon Kindle owners?

I'm extremely interested in getting a Kindle 2 (I've never owned an electronic reading device) but I'm worried about how long it will last. I realize that the Kindle 2 is strictly new, and nobody has probably had it long plenty for it to fail on them, yet, but what about the Kindle 1? I've hear that once they fail, you have to pay practically full price to replace it, and habitually they don't last for much more than a year. If you have a Kindle (any generation) what has your experience be? What are you happy with, and unhappy next to?
Answers:
I got my Kindle 2 a few months ago. Like what you said, I never have any problem with my Kindle, and it never hang. For Kindle 1, I don't know, but actually I've two of my friends using it for more than one year and I never hear they have any problem too...

For my Kindle 2, I'm very elated with it, and I now bring it with me adjectives the time. I've given my opinions to another person who is also buying the Kindle 2 here:

If you worry more or less how long it can last, may be you can consider to get this. You will then not have need of to worry about any problem within 2 years, and you can gain replacement even if it is broken ;)

I've some friends who have the Kindle device. Some have the Kindle 1, some the Kindle 2 and one have the Kindle DX. So far seems they don't have the problem. Actually I really admire them for have the Kindle. I'm now saving my money to get one ;)

If you protect your Kindle near a good case, I think it should not be a problem. Seems this defence is the best from what I've seen:
